Welcome to the MARLBOROUGH BERTH AND MOORING ASSOCIATION web site.
The Association was formed during 2007 following a meeting called by the Waikawa Boating Club to discuss the collective anger and frustration of the regions recreational boat owners with the policies, prices and administration directed at them by Port Marlborough NZ Ltd .. in particular the continuous large price increases and level of fees for marina berths, boatsheds, compound storage and launching ramps plus their objection to Waikawa Bay Mooring Owners gaining resource consents for their moorings
It appears that as long as the Marlborough District Council insist by way of their "Statement Of Corporate Intent" that the Councils trading entities yield market rates of return and fails to recognize social and recreational values, there will be no change in the aggressive commercial attitudes of Port Marlborough.
The Association has identified the main grievances sustained by members and has embarked on several courses of action to obtain relief. Regular meetings are now held with the mayor and council plus Port Marlborough executives to further our objectives on behalf of members. Legal Council has also been retained.
For too long boaties have not had a voice - this has now changed with the creation of the MBMA. The more members we have the stronger our voice will be. Users of marine facilities in Marlborough are encouraged to join - please make use of the online or hardcopy "Application for Membership" of our Association available on the "Join Us" page.
The Marlborough Berth and Mooring Association is an incorporated society with current membership in excess of 450.
